Bluesky, a social network gaining popularity as users leave X, has announced it will not use user content to train generative AI models. This announcement came as X (formerly Twitter) introduced new terms of service allowing it to use public posts for AI training.
In a post, Bluesky stated, "We do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so," responding to concerns raised by artists and creators who use the platform. Bluesky clarified that while it does use AI for content moderation and its “Discover” feed, these do not involve generative AI trained on user content.
Meanwhile, X, owned by Elon Musk, explains that user posts allow the platform to “analyze text and other information” to enhance its services, including AI model training.
Bluesky's user base has surged, with over 1 million new signups in a day, reaching 17.14 million users. Despite this growth, Meta’s Threads remains the largest competitor to X, with over 275 million monthly active users and 15 million new users this month.
